INSTALLATION
The plug should be installed in the seating block using
SC 90 mortar ensuring that adequate thickness is used to completely fill the
joint between the plug and the block. Care should also be taken to clean the
seating block of any mortar.
OPERATION
The erosion of a purge plug depends upon several factors,
most important among which are as follows :
analysis and
temperature of steel
time during which the gas is blown
through the purge plug
residence time during which the
molten steel remains in the ladle
pressure used during purging
degree of wear of seating block
the cleaning process of the purge
plug after the heat is tapped. The lancing should be for minimum duration.
Gas Pressure to be used :
The Pressure at which the purging gas is blown through
the purge plug depend upon the depth of the steel in the ladle and the type
of agitation required. 3 - 5 bar may be regarded as most common to give a
gas flow of 300 - 500 litre/min.
